Laura Tucker Cepeda, MD is currently the Mohs and Procedural Dermatology Fellow at Long Island Skin Cancer and Dermatologic Surgery, a teaching site of the Department of Dermatology at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn. She was born in Mobile, Alabama and was raised in the small coastal town of Fairhope, Alabama. She is a graduate of the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science, an intensive college preparatory public boarding school. After this, she attended Auburn University and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelors of Industrial and Systems Engineering degree.
While Dr. Cepeda was attending the University Of South Alabama College Of Medicine, she began doing research on skin pathology. Her results helped to characterize a cell type thought to be found only in lymphomas of the skin. Her research was published in the American Journal of Surgical Pathology, and she presented her results at national meetings to leading authorities in the field. She was also elected by her teachers to Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honor society for medicine.
After graduating from medical school, she performed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of South Alabama Medical Center. While an intern, she received the highest score on the Medicine inservice exam of any doctor in the training program.
In 2004, Dr. Cepeda and her husband moved to New York for her dermatology residency and his pediatrics residency. She received her board certification in dermatology after graduating in 2007 from the New York Medical College Dermatology Residency. She has had the honor of training with the surgeons at Long Island Skin Cancer and Dermatologic Surgery since June 2007. She is currently authoring three chapters in textbooks on skin cancer.
She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and Women's Dermatologic Society.
In her free time, Dr. Cepeda enjoys exploring New York City, eating yummy food, and spending time with her husband and dogs. |
