Dr. Deborah Zell, MD is currently the Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology Fellow at Long Island Skin Cancer and Dermatologic Surgery, a teaching site for the Department of Dermatology at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn.

Dr. Zell was born in New Orleans, LA and grew up in South Florida. After high school, she graduated with the honors of Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Tulane University in New Orleans where she earned double majors in Mathematics and Chemistry.  She also served as President of her undergraduate student body and received the prestigious President’s Award during her undergraduate studies.

Following her undergraduate education, Dr. Zell attended the Tulane University School of Medicine where she received an outstanding education in medicine and surgery.  She completed an Internal Medicine internship in New Orleans where she trained at Charity Hospital, Tulane University Medical Center and the Veterans Affairs Hospital.  She then served as a clinical research fellow at the University of Miami in the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery where she initiated, managed, and conducted fourteen clinical trials focusing primarily on scarring and keloids. Dr. Zell also authored numerous dermatologic articles and textbook chapters as well as served as a peer reviewer for other authors during her research and subsequent training at the University of Miami.

Dr. Zell completed her dermatology residency training at the University of Miami where she cared for a diverse and international patient population in all aspects of dermatology. She also engaged in clinical research, dermoscopy and skin cancer surgery during her residency, and received the esteemed Surgical Award and revered Kramer Research Award two years in a row.

Dr. Zell is committed to the study and treatment of cutaneous tumors and is honored to be receiving her Fellowship training under Dr. Siegel, Dr. Mollick, and Dr. Wong.  She is also proud to be serving our veterans at the VA Hospital in Brooklyn.
